Communications Data IPA or No Way

To all public sector organisations which acquire communications data (CD), please be aware the Security Minister has now signed the commencement order for the enactment of the remaining clauses in the Investigatory Powers Act 2016 (IPA), which includes the repeal of CD provisions under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA).

This came into effect on 22 July 2020 and means that absolutely no acquisition of CD under RIPA is now possible under any circumstances.  All public authorities transitioned to acquiring CD under the IPA last year so you’ll likely see no change, but remember, we have a dedicated workflow system and fully trained SPOCs on hand to process and submit your applications.
