TENANCY FRAUD
Tenancy Fraud Information and Resources
The most recent estimate suggests that social housing tenancy fraud across the UK costs up to £1 billion a year. In addition, local authorities incur the cost of housing people in temporary accommodation, when a social housing property is not available, alongside monies paid in the housing element of Universal Credit by the DWP.
When these additional costs are included, the cost of social housing related fraud may be up to £2 billion. However, this is just the financial cost and burden upon the public purse. The very human cost of social housing fraud is over 1 million people on waiting lists, homelessness and people in genuine need unable to find homes because of fraudsters.
Social Landlords and Local Authorities work hard to recover properties and bring fraudsters taking advantage of social housing to justice. What can you do help? Download and share these free resources to join the fight against tenancy fraud.
